After 17 journalists came forward to testify against Minister of State for External Affairs M J Akbar, he finally succumbed to pressure and resigned.
In a statement issued, he said that he would seek justice in personal capacity.
“I have, therefore, tedered my resignation from the office of Minister of State for External Affairs. I am deeply grateful to Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and to the External Affairs Minister Smt Sushma Swaraj for the opportunity they gave me to serve my country,” the statement added.
Over the last few days, more than 20 women have come forward to allege sexual misconduct on Akbar’s part.
He had earlier rejected the allegations as “false, fabricated and deeply distressing” and filed a defamation case against journalist Priya Ramani on Monday, claiming that her article in Vogue caused him “great humiliation”.
He was in Nigeria when his name popped up in the #MeToo Movement.
